♊Sanioka

DAY 5 — "Crystal Pyramid"
Featuring: Lala
Lala found the file the way she found everything — reluctantly, and only once it became clear that pretending not to know was more effort than simply producing it.
"I don't know where the old archive boxes are," she'd said, three times, with the particular flatness of someone who very much did know and had better things to do than admit it. By the fourth ask, she set a water-stained box on the table between them without comment, as if it had appeared there on its own.
"Fifty years of these," she said, nodding at the box like it personally offended her. "Nobody's touched them since before I started. Lucky you."
Mark lifted the first photograph out carefully. A man, unremarkable, holding a small crystalline pyramid, dated in careful pencil on the back — thirty years before he was born. He set it aside and lifted the next. The same man. The same pyramid, cradled the same way. A different photograph, a different decade, dated fifty years after the first.
The same face. Unchanged.
"That's not possible," he said, mostly to himself — and heard, faintly, an echo of Julie's voice from five days earlier, asking him the same question about a lamp that had arrived too early to make sense.
Lala, examining her nails with theatrical disinterest, glanced over anyway. "Lot of things in this building aren't possible. You're new enough you still say that out loud."
He checked the dates again. Then a third time, as though the paper might correct itself under enough scrutiny. It didn't. Somewhere between the man's first photograph and his last, fifty years had passed, and nothing about him had spent a single day of it.
"You don't seem surprised," Mark said.
"I filed the box." Lala shrugged, already turning to leave, already bored of a mystery she'd apparently made peace with years ago. "Bookkeeping tells you a lot, if you let it. I stopped needing it to make sense a while back. Faster that way." She paused at the door, not quite looking back. "For what it's worth — you're the first one who's kept looking this long instead of just filing it away."
Mark sat with the photographs long after she'd gone, the box open, the man's unchanged face looking back at him across five decades that had done nothing to him at all. He thought about the lamp that arrived early, the badge that shouldn't have moved, the pattern circling something none of them could name, the signal in the dark. Somewhere on his desk, a new folder was already waiting — the beginning, he suspected, of a case that would never quite close.

Guild Quest. Day 5. Room 51 - Case #731
Guild: Double D’s
https://i.imgur.com/7Y7EELOm.png

DAY 5 — “THE CRYSTAL PYRAMID”
Case №731: The Man Who Stood Still

The photograph from Sector Null led us back to Room 51 shortly before dawn. Mark searched the old files while Julie projected every known image of the crystal pyramid across the wall. The earliest had been taken in Siberia in 1908; another showed it in Nevada in 1954, then Norway in 1973, Bellwether in 2006 and finally the abandoned weather station one week ago. In every photograph, the same tall, silver-haired man held it against his chest. His face had not aged by a day. “Facial measurements confirm a single individual,” Julie said. “The probability of unrelated doubles matching this precisely is effectively zero.” Tara adjusted her tinfoil hat. “Ageless alien custodian. I’m writing that in ink.” DeNae handed her a cup of coffee. “Use pencil. This week has punished confidence.”

Oksana found the man’s name in Room 51’s oldest personnel ledger: Dr. Lucian Vale, theoretical physicist and founding consultant to Department 51. According to the record, Vale began work in 1951—but no birth certificate, university file or history before that year existed. More troublingly, the signature authorizing Sector Null belonged to him and had been renewed every decade, including the current one. “He didn’t come from another planet,” Laura concluded, studying his equations. “His mathematical notation is human.” “Human-adjacent is still available,” Lala said, reaching toward the projected pyramid. “And you are touching even the photograph with suspicious enthusiasm,” I warned. She withdrew her hand. “One day, John, history will appreciate my commitment to firsthand research.”

At precisely 5:51 a.m., the Tunguska monolith emitted the first signal. Blue light traveled through the walls, revealing a pyramid-shaped outline beneath Room 51’s floor. We waited through the longest fifty-one seconds of my life. When the second signal arrived, a section of the room folded inward—not opening like a door, but rotating through a direction none of us could name. Beyond it stood Lucian Vale, exactly as he appeared in the photographs. The Crystal Pyramid glowed between his hands, and behind him floated Elias Voss, suspended in a field of pale light. Voss looked only minutes older than he had in his twenty-year-old identification photograph. “Nobody cross the threshold,” Vale said. Mark stepped forward. “Release Agent Voss.” Vale gave him a tired smile. “That is what I have spent twenty years attempting to do.”

Vale explained that he was human, but not from our version of history. In his reality, scientists had discovered that time behaved less like a river and more like a network of synchronized reference frames. The Crystal Pyramid was a temporal inertial anchor, designed to preserve the biological and molecular state of its carrier while crossing between frames. Vale had not achieved immortality; whenever the pyramid transported him, it restored him to the age at which his pattern had been recorded. “So you have been fifty-eight for more than a century,” Julie said. “Biologically, yes. Subjectively, I have lived approximately seventy-three additional years.” Lala considered him. “That sounds exhausting. I’m tired after Tuesdays.” DeNae frowned at the pyramid. “And if it stops working?” Vale glanced at his unchanging hands. “Every postponed year arrives at once.”

The Tunguska Monolith was the network’s router, while the pyramid was its stabilizer. Vale had carried it through the decades to repair synchronization points damaged when his collapsing reality collided with ours. The strange flashes were not invasions but controlled transfers of energy and information. Twenty years earlier, Voss had mistaken the first signal for an opening and entered before the return coordinate formed. Vale caught him between frames with the pyramid, but could neither release him nor remain long enough in one year to explain. Voss’s report, badge and warning had consequently scattered across time. “Then the footprints appearing before the Bellwether flash were leakage from this rescue attempt,” Laura said. Vale nodded. “You found the effect before its cause because, from the network’s perspective, both were already present.”

Releasing Voss required one stable observer on our side to provide a biological reference—someone unaltered by prolonged contact with Department 51 technology. That was why the encoded transmission had instructed them to mark the stable reference and bring me downstairs. “Apparently skepticism has measurable scientific value,” I said. Tara opened her notebook. “Can conspiracy theorists be reference points?” “Your neural activity is unusually variable,” Vale told her diplomatically. Tara beamed. “I knew I was special.” Mark positioned the monolith, Julie calibrated the Universal Translator, and Laura monitored Voss’s vital signs. DeNae controlled the power feeds while Oksana called out the synchronization intervals. Lala stood beside me under strict orders to touch nothing. “This feels discriminatory,” she whispered. “It’s evidence-based,” I replied.

The first signal opened the passage; the second gave it a destination. I placed my hand on the Crystal Pyramid, and for one impossible instant I saw every Room 51 at once: abandoned in one reality, orbiting Earth in another, buried beneath ice in a third. I also saw our five days not as a sequence, but as a single structure—the ultraviolet footprints pointing toward Voss’s badge, the badge toward the monolith, the monolith toward the translator and the translator toward Vale. Then the pyramid flashed. Voss fell forward into Mark’s arms as the passage collapsed. Vale remained on the other side. “Come with us!” Oksana called. “I cannot,” he answered. “Not until the last damaged node is closed.” Before the fold vanished, he looked directly at me. “John, when the pyramid returns, do not assume I am the one carrying it.”

Conclusion

Elias Voss recovered quickly, although he insisted that only eleven minutes had passed since his disappearance in 2006. The ultraviolet trail had been a temporal calibration trace; his displaced badge was an emergency message; the Tunguska Monolith connected the scattered investigations; the Universal Translator reconstructed information arriving out of order; and the Crystal Pyramid preserved Vale while he repaired the network across decades.

Mark had wanted facts capable of destroying impossible explanations. Instead, he found facts precise enough to require one. We had rescued the missing agent and prevented the Bellwether aperture from widening, but Lucian Vale remained somewhere among intersecting histories—and the pyramid’s next carrier was still unknown.

Tara titled the final page of her Handy Dandy Notebook ALIENS: NOT CONFIRMED, BUT STILL EXTREMELY SUSPICIOUS. Julie adopted Susan the chicken, Laura preserved copies of Voss’s reports, and DeNae submitted a carefully itemized food bill to Department 51. Lala received a certificate recognizing seventy-two consecutive minutes without touching classified technology. She framed it.

As for me, I flew everyone home beneath an ordinary sunrise. Halfway back, the aircraft clock jumped ahead fifty-one seconds. Oksana noticed but said nothing. She merely smiled toward the empty seat behind me, where a tiny triangular patch of blue light slowly faded from the upholstery.

Epilogue

Case №731 was ultimately transferred to the sealed archives without receiving any official explanation.

Mark’s handling of the investigation earned him a promotion, broader clearance and access to records that produced far more questions than answers. None of Department 51’s folders explained where Lucian Vale had gone, who might next carry the Crystal Pyramid or how many damaged points remained within the temporal network.

Among thousands of classified documents, the photographs of the unchanging man remained under lock and key: different countries, different decades, always the same face and always the same pyramid glowing in his hands.

Mark finally accepted that mystery does not begin with a lack of evidence. Sometimes it begins when the evidence becomes too consistent for an ordinary explanation.

When he returned to his new office, several unopened folders were already waiting on his desk. The top one contained no case number—only a recent photograph of Lucian Vale standing beside my airplane.

Case №731, it seemed, had never been the whole story.

It was merely the first page. 👽📁

DAY 5 — "Crystal Pyramid"
Featuring: Laura
Laura was already at the table when Mark arrived, the water-stained box open in front of her, photographs spread across the surface in a loose, careful line — as though she'd been arranging her own history and needed to see the whole shape of it at once.
"I asked Lala for these yesterday," she said, without looking up. "I think I always knew they existed. I just hadn't been ready to ask."
Mark sat across from her. The photographs showed a woman — unmistakably Laura — holding a small crystalline pyramid, dated across five decades in careful, faded pencil. Her face hadn't changed in a single one of them.
"This is you," he said. Not a question anymore.
"This is me." She touched the earliest photograph gently, the way she'd touched her own unfinished report two days before. "I don't remember all of these being taken. I think there are pieces of the last thirty years I wasn't entirely present for — moments where whatever happened to me during that first case pulled me a little sideways from where everyone else was standing." She smiled, small and a little sad, but warm the way she always was. "It's strange, explaining your own life back to yourself in photographs."
"John found something yesterday," Mark said carefully. "A device, in the closed sector. Built around your case number. I think someone spent decades trying to find you."
Something in Laura's expression shifted — surprised, and beneath the surprise, something gentler. "Someone was listening," she said quietly, almost to herself. "I always hoped, but I never let myself be certain."
She picked up the pyramid's photograph, the last one, dated only a few years back, and held it beside her own hand as if measuring the distance between the woman in the picture and the one sitting across from Mark now. There wasn't one.
"I don't know if I'll ever fully understand what happened to me," she said. "But I don't think that's the same as it being unresolved. I think, for a long time, I believed I had to solve it before I could stop carrying it quietly by myself." She looked at Mark, at the box, at the small stubborn evidence of thirty years finally laid out where someone could see it. "I don't think I have to anymore."
Mark thought of the lamp that arrived too early, the badge that shouldn't have moved, the Monolith patiently keeping account, the machine built in the dark just to listen for her — five days that had quietly, insistently, been building toward this exact table.
"What happens now?" he asked, echoing his own question from days before.
Laura gathered the photographs carefully, unhurried, the way she gathered everything, and allowed herself, finally, something like relief.
"Now," she said, "I stop being a case file. And I start being someone people actually found."

End of Case #731.

📚 DAY 1 — ABS OF STEEL
Lala only knew where the Fitness Center was because she once took a wrong turn looking for the bar.

She had not returned .

Until today .

Apparently Fedor had discovered a book promising Abs of Steel in a Couple of Days , and somebody needed to stop this nonsense before he hurt himself.

Or worse .

Inspired by other people .

She found him on the floor doing sit-ups.

“Fedor. Stop.

“Why?

“Because I've looked into it.”

He stopped .

“Are you researched fitness?”

“No. I looked at myself in the mirror.”

Fedor waited .

“I've had this body for years. If abs were going to show up, they know the address.”

He held up the book. “It says two days.”

“Then it's lying. Nothing good happens in two days except Amazon delivery.”

Fedor explained that the secret was doing abdominal exercises every waking hour.

Lala looked horrified.

“Every hour?

“Yes.

“On purpose?

“Yes.

“Have you considered just buying a larger shirt?”

Fedor went back to his sit-ups.

Lala watched one .

Then another .

“That looks awful.

“It burns.

“Your body is literally telling you to stop.”

“That means it's working.”

“That is also how fire works, Fedor.”

There was really nothing more she could do.

Lala left the gym exactly the way she entered it:

without the book ,

without abs ,

and apparently without the correct screenshot.

She did, however, find the Wasp Waist Fitness Machine .

She has no idea what it does or what day to use it in her post. https://upforme.ru/uploads/0019/3c/8c/7199/t916360.jpg

But it looks much more reasonable.

You just lie there .

Guild Quest. Day 1. The Gym - The Shortest Path to A Championship
Guild: Double D’s

DAY 1 — “ABS OF STEEL”
I had been home from the Explorers Guild for precisely two days when I made the mistake of believing a week's vacation might be relaxing. There were no cursed temples to enter, no missing expeditions to locate, and no Guild girls enthusiastically pressing mysterious buttons after I had specifically asked them not to. With my airplane safely in its hangar and my luggage still half-unpacked, I decided to use the quiet time to train at the local fitness center. That was where I met Fedor—a determined young man performing abdominal crunches with the grim concentration of someone trying to fold himself into a suitcase.

He had found the book the previous day, sitting on a shelf beside the exercise mats as if fate—or someone with a cruel sense of humor—had placed it there especially for him. Across its cover, in enormous golden letters, were the words: Washboard Abs in a Couple of Days . Any reasonable person would have recognized this as optimistic advertising. Fedor regarded it as serious scientific literature. By the time I arrived, he had created a schedule involving four hundred crunches before breakfast, another four hundred after breakfast, and “emergency crunches” whenever he felt his abdominal development might be slowing. “By Thursday,” he told me, tapping the book confidently, “my stomach will be harder than armor.” I glanced at the title. “By Thursday, you may need assistance standing upright.”

Of all the advice in the book, Fedor had become especially devoted to something called the Steel Plank Challenge . According to the author, an athlete should hold a plank position for as long as possible while imagining that the floor beneath him was lava and personal failure was chasing him with a stopwatch. Fedor liked this advice because it required no expensive equipment and promised to “awaken the sleeping champion within.” Unfortunately, Fedor's sleeping champion appeared to be an exceptionally heavy sleeper. “I held it for six minutes yesterday,” he said. “Today I'm aiming for twenty.” I knelt beside him and examined the trembling in his arms. “Your champion isn't awakening,” I said. “He's sending a distress signal.”

Fedor began the challenge while I timed him. At two minutes, he was confident. At four, he started talking with his elbows. At six, sweat dripped from his forehead while his entire body vibrated like the wing of my airplane in severe turbulence. At eight minutes, a passing trainer named Mila stopped and stared. “Is he all right?” she asked. “Define 'all right,'” I replied. Fedor gasped that he was approaching the legendary “steel stage,” then attempted to prove it by lifting one hand triumphantly. His remaining arm collapsed, and he landed face-first on the mat with a soft noise rather like a sack of flour surrendering to gravity.

Unfortunately, the book also advised readers to rise immediately after the challenge and perform fifty “victory twists.” Fedor obeyed before either Mila or I could stop him. His exhausted abdominal muscles seized halfway through the third twist, leaving him bent sideways with one arm raised and the other pressed to his stomach. “John,” he whispered, “I seem to be stuck...and in a good bit of pain.” We carefully straightened him while half the gym pretended not to watch. “Have I developed the abs?” he asked hopefully. “You've developed an excellent cautionary example,” I told him. "Muscles grow during recovery as well as exercise. Pain is information, Fedor—not applause."

That evening, I persuaded him to replace his impossible schedule with a sensible workout, proper rest, and a promise never to follow fitness advice simply because it was printed in gold letters. Fedor agreed, although reluctantly, and slid the Sport Primer into his gym bag. For years afterward, he would recall the Steel Plank Challenge with a shudder—partly because of the pain, partly because someone had taken a photograph of his “victory twist,” and mostly because Mila had pinned that photograph above the exercise mats beneath a handwritten sign: THE FLOOR IS NOT LAVA. PLEASE TRAIN RESPONSIBLY. As we left, Fedor looked thoughtful. “Perhaps abs take longer than two days,” he admitted. “That,” I said, “may be the first useful thing you've learned from that book.”

https://upforme.ru/uploads/0019/3c/8c/7219/t495761.pngJour 1 Des abdos d'acier en quelques jours
Guilde To the Manor Born
