🌅 DAY FIVE — IT’S A TRADITION NOW

Found item: Snatchin’s currency
JULIE — Nothing for Yourself
By morning, Tara’s tiara had slipped sideways.
Lala had acquired a photograph of Max in the red dress.
John was discussing aerodynamics with a man who had written his telephone number on a napkin.
We had planned to stop for one drink.
This was becoming difficult to defend.
The bartender placed a piece of Snatchin’s currency before Max.
“The last one.”
Max examined the little face printed on it.
“What can I buy?”
“Nothing for yourself.”
“Of course.”
The administrator explained the closing tradition. Whoever had been in charge gave the final currency to the person without whom the night would have been different.
Max looked around.
At the bartender washing glasses.
At the DJ winding cables.
At our guild occupying considerably more space than seven tired people required.
“That’s an unreasonable number of candidates.”
Oksana smiled.
“You’ve been making decisions all night.”
“Mostly by accident.”
“This one can take a moment.”
Across the room, Nina was helping a guest search the pockets of a coat.
She found his keys.
He thanked her and hurried out.
Max turned the currency over.
Then looked toward the cloakroom again.

🌅 DAY FIVE, continued
Found item: Snatchin’s currency
LALA — Somebody Has Been Paying Attention
Max asked whether Nina always worked at the cloakroom.
“Usually,” the administrator said.
“Does she ever join the closing toast?”
A pause.
“She’s generally busy.”
I looked toward the counter.
Nina was sorting abandoned scarves into a basket.
The last guests had gone.
Nobody needed their scarves sorted immediately.
“Mad,” I said, “we require one more place at the bar.”
DeNae cleared the stool beside her.
John collected Nina’s coat.
Tara straightened her tiara for the occasion.
Max approached the counter holding the currency.
Nina smiled.
“Your jacket’s already out.”
“This isn’t a collection.”
He explained the tradition.
She glanced past him toward the bartender.
“He did the opening.”
“And you joined in while catching somebody’s coat.”
“The bride—”
“Needed your clips.”
“That was nothing.”
Max looked down at the currency.
“I think I’ve heard that phrase enough tonight.”
She stood very still.
He continued.
“You helped people get into photographs. You fixed the dress. You taught half the club something. When I covered your counter, I discovered I couldn’t even find a coat.”
“You improved.”
“Eventually.”
He offered her the note.
“This is yours.”
Nina accepted it carefully.
Then I took her hand.
“Good. Now stop working. We’ve saved you a seat.”

🌅 DAY FIVE, continued
Found item: Snatchin’s currency
MAD — One More Place
Nina sat between DeNae and the bartender.
At first, she kept turning toward the cloakroom.
Then Tara asked how she had learned the trick with the dress clips.
Her answer involved a wedding, a broken zipper, and an uncle nobody had trusted with scissors.
By the time Anton arrived, she had us helpless with laughter.
He stopped inside the entrance.
Max checked his watch.
“Seven minutes late.”
Anton surveyed the room.
The red dress still hung backstage.
Paper airplanes rested above the bar.
On the screen, our disastrous family photograph remained frozen behind the dance floor.
“What happened?”
Max drew out a stool.
“You should sit down.”
Anton listened.
At the opening rhythm, he laughed.
At the photograph game, he wanted copies.
At the bridesmaid dress, Lala silently supplied evidence.
After the fitted-sheet auction, he put his head in his hands.
When Max explained the final currency, Anton looked toward Nina.
She lifted her glass.
He lifted one back.
Later, Max collected his jacket himself.
Anton followed him.
“If you ever wanted to do another—”
“No.”
“I haven’t finished.”
“I’m improving at this.”
At the door, Max turned.
“Although we might come back tonight.”
“All of you?”
Max glanced at our guild.
Then at Nina, still sitting at the bar.
“Yes,” he said. “Save us eight places.”
I looked around the room once more.
Tonight, the lights had caught every one of us.
I hoped they would again.

Day 5:
Max held the last Snatch currency in his hands for a long time, thinking, thinking, thinking, …..
Whom would he give it to? He looked around and considered all the events that had taken place in the club. Then, he had it! He knew precisely what had been the most memorable event, at least for him.
He checked his pockets and found there, the note that the girl with the bouquet of flowers had given him. It had her phone number. He, without any further delay, rang her.
The phone was ringing and ringing, until finally she answered. “Hello”, she said.
Max immediately blurted out, “Yes, I will marry you, unless you have changed your mind. And, in any case, I have some currency to give you as you have provided me with the most unforgettable moment in the history of this club and also in my whole life. Please, come to collect it and to give me your answer.”
After a few seconds, the girl stood right in front of him and said, “I never left the club because I was waiting for you. And yes I still want to marry you.” Max, handed the currency to her and held her closely.

Guild Quest. Day 5. Club 69 - Nothing Complicated
Guild: Double D's
https://i.imgur.com/81Hi1qNm.png

 CLUB 69: NOTHING COMPLICATED
DAY 5 — "NOW IT'S A TRADITION"

 Club 69 — 4:45 AM

By quarter to five in the morning, Club 69 had begun to resemble the aftermath of a particularly successful diplomatic summit between several competing civilizations. The music had softened, the disco ball turned lazily overhead, and the bartender was collecting glasses while the staff surveyed the consequences of an evening that had apparently rewritten several chapters of nightclub history. The pink bar stool stood safely unplugged in a corner, wearing a paper crown. The Snatchin pylon had been dismantled, although nobody could explain why its ceremonial trousers were hanging from a chandelier. Sophie's heart-shaped gift box had departed with the bachelorette party, and the gentlemen's anniversary cake had finally been eaten by people who were no longer particularly concerned about its original purpose. Our Guild occupied a large booth, looking magnificent, exhausted, and thoroughly pleased with ourselves. Julie was reviewing photographs, LaLa was calculating how many honorary titles we'd acquired, and DeNae had finally removed her royal crown. Tara was still writing in her Handy Dandy Notebook, though her handwriting had begun resembling the seismographic record of a minor earthquake. "We should do this again," Mad suggested. "Absolutely," said Oksana. I studied the remains of my cocktail. "Perhaps after my knees have recovered."

Max sat at the bar, staring thoughtfully into his glass. He was exhausted, of course, but it was a pleasant exhaustion—the kind that follows an evening when everything goes wrong in precisely the right way. Somewhere between the coronation, the Snatchin competition, the missing bride, and the spectacular cake catastrophe, he'd stopped feeling like an outsider. The bartender approached and placed a small bundle of green banknotes and several gold and silver coins before him. Each note bore the image of a distinguished Snatchin wearing a top hat. "What's this?" Max asked. "Snatchin currency," replied the bartender. "It's yours." Max examined the money. "And what can I buy with it?" The bartender smiled. "Nothing for yourself." Max sighed. "Of course. I should have known." The bartender explained that Club 69 maintained one final tradition: at the end of a particularly successful night, the person in charge received the ceremonial currency. But it could never be kept. Before closing, it had to be given to someone whose contribution had made the evening unforgettable. "And what happens then?" Max asked. "That person becomes the Keeper of the Night." Max looked around the club. "That's going to be difficult."

❤ Indeed, the decision seemed almost impossible. The bartender had kept everyone supplied with drinks and good humor. The administrator had somehow maintained a functioning nightclub despite Max's enthusiastic destruction of its traditions. Roxie had turned a cake catastrophe into a magnificent performance. Sophie had reminded everyone that friendship was worth celebrating, and the Explorers Guild had contributed enough creative mischief to qualify as a minor natural disaster. Max approached our booth and explained his dilemma. "Give it to Julie," suggested Mad. "She's been organizing things all night." "Give it to DeNae," countered LaLa. "She's already royalty." DeNae laughed. "I'd give it to the bartender. He deserves a medal." Tara looked up from her notebook. "Technically, the administrator prevented at least eleven operational failures." "Twelve," corrected Oksana. "You're forgetting the cake." Julie smiled. "What about Max himself?" "He can't keep it," I reminded her. Max shook his head. "Do you see my problem?" I nodded thoughtfully. "Actually, I think I know who deserves it. But you have to make the decision yourself."

Max followed my gaze towards the entrance, where the Snatchin face-controller stood checking the final departing guests. The little green creature wore his immaculate black suit, his ceremonial medal from the dance competition, and the expression of someone who had personally supervised the collapse of civilization but intended to file the appropriate paperwork anyway. Max remembered how sternly the Snatchin had regarded him at the beginning of the evening. He remembered the creature's horrified reaction to the coronation, his reluctant participation in the quick-change competition, and the small approving nod after the cake catastrophe. Most importantly, he realized that the Snatchin had remained at his post throughout the entire night, quietly ensuring that everyone could enjoy themselves safely. Max approached him. "Excuse me. May I ask your name?" The Snatchin straightened. "Reginald." Max blinked. "Reginald?" "Reginald Bartholomew Snatchington the Third," the creature replied stiffly. "But the staff calls me Reggie." Max smiled. "Well, Reggie, I believe this belongs to you."

Reggie stared at the bundle of Snatchin currency in Max's outstretched hand. For the first time that evening, the little creature appeared completely speechless. "But sir," he finally managed, "I merely performed my duties." "Exactly," Max replied. "While the rest of us were inventing new ways to turn this place upside down, you made sure it remained standing. You welcomed the guests, protected the traditions, and somehow found room to enjoy the new ones. Without you, tonight would have been very different." Reggie's pointed ears twitched. His green eyes grew suspiciously bright. "I have served this establishment for forty-three years," he said quietly. "No temporary manager has ever given me the currency." Max placed it in his hands. "Then it's about time someone did." For a moment, nobody spoke. Then Reggie straightened his tie, raised the currency above his head, and announced in a surprisingly powerful voice, "BY THE AUTHORITY VESTED IN ME AS KEEPER OF THE NIGHT, I HEREBY DECLARE ALL FOUR NEW TRADITIONS OFFICIALLY RECOGNIZED!" The Guild erupted in cheers. DeNae raised her glass. "LONG LIVE REGGIE!" Julie applauded wildly. Mad shouted, "SPEECH!" Tara began documenting the historic occasion. And Reggie, overcome by emotion, did something absolutely unprecedented. He smiled.

As dawn approached, the last guests departed and the staff began preparing Club 69 for another evening. Max stood beside the bar, watching Reggie carefully place the ceremonial currency inside a small velvet-lined box. "You know," Max said to me, "when Anton asked me to look after this place, I thought he meant keeping everything exactly as it was." "And now?" I asked. Max glanced around the nightclub. "Now I think perhaps he meant keeping it alive." I smiled. "That's a rather good way of putting it." Across the room, Oksana and LaLa were discussing future adventures, Julie was arranging a group photograph, DeNae was returning her crown to the pink bar stool, and Mad was helping Tara recover the final pages of her notebook from beneath a cocktail table. The bartender approached with two glasses of sparkling cider. "To the best night we've had in years," he declared. Max raised his glass. "To do absolutely nothing complicated." We clinked glasses. Somewhere behind us, Reggie began laughing. And for once, nobody needed to ask why.

 CLUB 69: NOTHING COMPLICATED

 CONCLUSION - "AN ORDINARY EVENING"

Anton arrived at Club 69 shortly after sunrise, looking fresh, cheerful, and suspiciously satisfied with himself. Max met him at the entrance, glanced at his watch, and announced, "You're seven minutes late." Anton laughed. "Well? How did it go?" Max looked back toward the dance floor, where employees were collecting the last traces of a night that would probably require several revisions to the club's operating manual. "You told me this would be an ordinary evening." "Well, yes." "Ordinary compared to WHAT?" Anton laughed again, but stopped laughing when Max began his report. By the time he'd heard about the Royal Rotating Coronation, Anton had stopped interrupting. The Snatchin Quick-Change Championships made him sit down. The missing bride and the spectacular cake catastrophe caused him to request a drink, despite the hour. And when Max explained that Reggie had officially recognized four entirely new club traditions, Anton stared at him for a very long time. "I left you alone for ONE NIGHT." "I was counting on one myself," Max replied. Anton smiled slowly. "You know, if you'd ever like to help out again—" "No." "I haven't even finished asking!" "And I'd like us to remain friends." Max collected his jacket and headed for the door. Then he stopped. "Although..." Anton immediately brightened. "Yes?" "I might come by some evening. Just as a guest." Anton grinned. "You're always welcome." Max nodded thoughtfully. For the first time in eighteen years, he had rediscovered something he'd almost forgotten: sometimes the best adventures begin with an old friend asking for a very small favor. And sometimes the wisest response to that favor is to run in the opposite direction.

EPILOGUE — "THE NEW HOUSE RULES"

One week later, Club 69 unveiled a magnificent new sign near the entrance. It read: WELCOME TO CLUB 69 – HOME OF THE ROYAL ROTATING CORONATION, THE INTERNATIONAL QUICK-CHANGE CHAMPIONSHIPS, THE CEREMONY OF UNBREAKABLE FRIENDSHIP, AND THE GREAT CAKE SURPRISE! Beneath the sign, in considerably smaller letters, someone had added: All events subject to change without notice, explanation, or managerial approval. Reggie stood proudly beside the entrance, wearing his ceremonial medal and a new gold nameplate identifying him as KEEPER OF THE NIGHT . Inside, the pink bar stool occupied a place of honor beneath a glass display case. The Snatchin pylon had acquired an official instruction manual consisting of forty-seven pages, thirty-six of which were warnings. Roxie had been promoted to Director of Unexpected Entertainment, and the bartender had created a cocktail called Nothing Complicated , which required eleven ingredients, three bartenders, and a signed waiver.

Naturally, the Explorers Guild returned for the grand reopening. Julie had insisted. DeNae wore her royal crown, LaLa carried a list of proposed amendments to the nightclub constitution, Oksana was already examining the dance floor, and Mad had brought a camera with an exceptionally large memory card. Tara carried her Handy Dandy Notebook in a small evening bag, having finally decided that certain mysteries of storage were better left unexplored. I wore my black-and-gold jacket again, although my knees had formally requested a different assignment. We found Max sitting comfortably at the bar, enjoying a quiet drink. "Well!" I'm exclaimed. "Look who's back!" Max smiled. "Just visiting. Nothing complicated." At that precise moment, Reggie approached carrying a clipboard. "Excuse me, sir. Anton says you might be interested in supervising tonight's special event." Max froze. "What special event?" Reggie consulted his notes. "The ceremonial unveiling of our new mechanical dancing chandelier." Max slowly turned towards me. I raised my glass. "Don't look at me, old friend. I'm retired." Behind us, the chandelier began to hum.

And somewhere in Club 69, somebody said the most dangerous words in the history of nightlife:

"DON'T WORRY. EVERYTHING IS UNDER CONTROL!"

🎉💰 CLUB 69: NOTHING COMPLICATED
DAY 5 — "NOW IT'S A TRADITION"

📍 Club 69 — 4:45 AM

🌅🍸 By quarter to five in the morning, Club 69 had begun to resemble the aftermath of a particularly successful diplomatic summit between several competing civilizations.

💰😎 Max sat at the bar, staring thoughtfully into his glass.

🤔❤ Indeed, the decision seemed almost impossible.

🎩🐾 Max followed my gaze towards the entrance, where the Snatchin face-controller stood checking the final departing guests.

💰🥹 Reggie stared at the bundle of Snatchin currency in Max's outstretched hand. He smiled.

🌟🥂 As dawn approached, the last guests departed and the staff began preparing Club 69 for another evening. Max stood beside the bar, watching Reggie carefully place the ceremonial currency inside a small velvet-lined box.
